Hi,
Although MP3/Tag Studio has already an incredible number of very useful features, there is still one feature left...
When I have downloaded mp3's from the internet for a complete album, they often have very different names and tags. Wouldn't it be easy if you could just open MP3/Tag studio, click on the directory which contains the mp3's and that MP3/ Tag studio than connects to CDDB or Allmusic.com or any other database and collects the information for the complete album and fills in the tags and renames them?
I know that this is possible, since I use another program for this (MP3 Internet Renamer, which unfortunetaly can not be downloaded since the website www.mp3ir.com does not exist anymore).
I hope you have time to look into it!

That sounds like a pretty cool programme -MP3 Internet Renamer.
But I wonder if it would cause problems if it was implemented into Tag Studio. Piracy and copyright for one.
Basically offering that function would perhaps be sending a negative message to all those Fat record companies who are just looking for an excuse to shut people down.
Maybe thats why you cant down load MP3 Internet Renamer anymore.
Update: You can download it as I have just found it via google on a Korean website.

Yeah I know you can still download it from different sites. Yet probably you will just find an 1.xx version which only supports id3 version 1 tags (and not 2). There is also a 2.xx alpha version which has much more functions (including id3 version 2), but is harder to find.
I doubt weather it will cause problems. There are also other programms who do the same. Moreover, it has nothing to do with illegal downloading what so ever. It is just a very handy tool for renaming and tagging, not for ripping or sharing or whatever illegal stuff.
Conclusion: I would still love to see MP3/Tag studio to look into this feauture!

The risk of being accused of illegal business in connection with CDDB functionality is nothing I have worried about at all. The reason that it is not implemented in Mp3/TS this far is that I find most CDDB databases very unreliable in their information, and that all CDDB-like solutions I have seen so far have either been costly for me, or quite crappy just in general. I plan to support such functionality in a future version if I can just find a good "CDDB provider", and get the time to implement it.
Does anyone have any good knowledge of companies/sites that provide such services for free? Which alternatives should I choose between? Please don't hesitate to list as many as possible, since this will only increase the possibility that I'll find some that I am satisfied with.

Every db based upon user-submitted data will have errors and near-duplicates. Still easier than doing all the typing and/or research yourself

I dont know of any CDDB that is acurate.
I always get the odd album thats been submitted in all CAPS!!
What is wrong with these people?
I especially get errors because a lot of my CD's are Japanese releases.
I always make sure I hit the submit button if I've had to fix an error in a cd playlist.
I use freedb and generally its pretty good.
Im interested in how you would implement it in MP3 \TS.
Would it be a case of selecting a directory of files and being able to add the CDDB info to all the files?
Just curious.

I would probably make it possible to easily auto-CDDB-tag the current working dir (if it is a full album of course), and also auto-CDDB-tag whole directory trees of albums.

Indead, cddb is often crappy, I know. Mp3 internet renamer uses the following:

The last one is, as far as I know, not updated by users and a very good one. I am not sure weather you will have to pay for it, although I don't think so, because MP3 Ir was also a free programm. Have a look for yourself:

Furthermore, the combination of more than one database in one programm makes it possible that you can choose a different database if you can't find the album you are looking for.
